Cataclysm brought revamped zones and I love it !

Since the Cataclysm, many zones have been revamped. Silverpine Forest is one of these zone. So, I took Frostshizzle and headed him towards that zone to see the extent of the changes.

I would describe them as epic, from the start to the end, the flow and lore of the quests is just that good. I’d say even better than the death knight starting quests.

I always felt that the starting areas were pretty weak in terms of immersion, making you feel "important", not just beign a random horde member. The new quests puts you at the center of the action and combined with judicious use of phasing makes you really feel like you are changing the world.

There are some really fun and cool quests to be done : the murloc bombing run comes to mind. My only gripe would be that this quest isn’t a daily quests.

The story is also great, the ties with the worgen, them joining the alliance, really brings back the "war" in warcraft.

All in all I had a great time doing those quests, you should definitely do them if you haevn’t

The Cataclysm fallacy

Let me start by saying that I really hope to be proven wrong, for if what I am about to discuss ends up to be true, the consequences could be disastrous.

Blizzard often stated that they want healer’s Mana to be meaningful in Cataclysm, and in order to do so, they will put in place mechanism that will force DPS to make sure to avoid unnecessary damage or else the healer will soon run out of mana.

I will focus on non raid content as even by blizzard’s own account, the majority of players aren’t raiding just yet (heck a while back they stated only 10 % of the new players go past level 10)

On paper, this idea sounds goods as it spreads the accountability of the group’s success across every team member, not just the healer and the tank as it is now. (How many times have you been part of a group where the tank and healers could have duo’ed the instance? I know that it happens pretty fairly often once they overgear the content)

The problem with wrath is that the dungeon finder arrived at a moment where most healer / tanks were already overgeared (except for IIC 5 mans). The perverse effect being that new dps players never actually learned to play “right”.

When cataclysm will be shipped those players will point towards the healer for their own failure.

If healing could be a stressful job on harder heroics, it will be on each and every one.

I’m not sure which class I’ll be playing first when cataclysm hits the shelves. My main is a holy pally, my DK is a tank, my retired warrior might end up being the first toon I’ll play if healing gets to be the pain I fear it will be.

Karma ?

Last night, my banking toon hit the gold cap again (I usually send back a couple of K worth to my other toon when that happens). This time, since Maljjin’s hunter set his foot in Northrend, I’ve decided to help him out :

  1. 5000 : Epic Flyer Skill
  2. 200 : the actual epic flyer
  3. 1000 : Tome of Cold Weather Flying

As a result, I was 6.2k under the cap, which I assumed was enough to last as day or 2. Well, I guess its good Karma from my actions, as I had a couple of nice sales overnight and when I woke up I was back to the gold cap.

The biggest sale being an Iron Riveted War Helm which I had bought for ~450g and resold for 3365g09s15c (after AH Cut).

This morning I sent 25k to my lock, this will allow some room before hitting the cap again.

2 Times gold capped

I reached that mark on july 8th.
I spent 17k on a traveler’s thundra mount for Sheldreyn as she was my only toon able to ride one who didn’t have one yet.

Next goal will be to reach half a million.

Interesting goal

WowEcon, a blog I’m following daily has decided to host their hall of fame (people who reached the gold cap). I intend to be part of that list. How much time will it take ? I don’t know and don’t really care. I just know it is a matter of time.

Slowly progressing

Switched most of Aghorn’s gear / enchants to use Stamina instead of Intellect / Mana. Went from ~450 HP to ~760 HP. My survivability, greatly increased since then. I do however run out of mana more often than I used to, but I have to admit that an half full mana pool is useless when you’re dead.

I also bought enchanting formula : greater stats for 2k… Yes that was expensive, but since the scrolls go for around 300g each, I expect that I’ll be covering that fee before I hit lvl 30 (where I’ll be able to enchant items ilvl 35) Until then I expect to use at least 4 other chest piece. So if manage to sell 2 or 3 scrolls, I’ll be saving money if I had bought all the scrolls.

This is the latest achievement I got. A guild member was surprise that I managed to get it at only level 13.

I’ve seen a few asshat that QQ about lowbies being part of their team, I have one thing to say to them : look at yourself before complaining. In one game some dude was whining  that we had too many lowbies, he was lvl 19 and yet, despite being a druid like myself, I had more HP and mana than he did. Sure he ended with more dmg than I did, but on the other hand I healed for more than his total dmg.

Its not because your are a lowbie that you can’t be an assets to your team. Know your role and you are more likely to help your team win.

Teamwork is important
The last game I played last night somehow pissed me off. There 4 ally guarding the flag. I’m with a shaman (18) and a warrior (17). None of them seems to want to run the flag (they waited idle for more than a minute). So I decide to go in, hoping they’d provide some type of cover / heals. I drop a stunning bomb, pick up the flag, start running, enter the tunnel, 10 feet in I die. I didn’t received any support all…

Heck, 1 heal and 1 enemy busy on the warrior is all I needed to be able to escape, but no I didn’t get that and we couldn’t even take the flag out of the flag room. Teamwork is important.

Is there a match making system ?

Played 3 more games last night, lost all of them. I don’t know why but each and every alliance team we faced had at least 5 people at level 19 whereas in our games, I got 1 game where we had 3 lvl 19. Moreover, those lvl 19 that we faced were twinks. You can tell that when an autoshot takes 1/4 of your life bar.

The 1st game, we managed to score once, the two others, we were so outclassed that we could barely defend our own flag with everyone in defense. What sucks is there doesn’t seem to be a distribution of the players that queue up. It rather looks like it’s a round-robin where teams are formed as people queue up. Why not just ‘try’ to have people within 2 lvls matched up together, heck there’s constantly 10 WSG going on on my battlegroup and queue times are under 2 minutes average. I’d rather wait 2 more minutes if the games were to be more balanced.

I’m starting to consider switching my mana / intellect enchants to stam enchants, so that way I can live longer. But then what good living is when you’re oom ?

Ho and I managed to snatch that achievement despite the loss streak.not_so_fast

In the second game we played I came a cross a really good paladin on the ally side, sucks that I forgot his name though, but despite being a twink he was really skilled. He mastered the use of hand of freedom perfectly, as he always seemed to use it just as I was about to root him. However, that player was also exploiting the terrain when he could (there is a spot you can reach on the ally side of WSG over the tunnel entrance, where you cannot be reached unless you know where to wall-jump to get there), that means he could get there and kill anyone that tried to climb without fear of retaliation (you can’t attack him but he can).
