3.1 Warrior Changes

Blizzard started giving hints on what changes we can expect for each classes in 3.1. Here’s the warrior’s one. 

  • Changing stances now has a much reduced cost: you lose a maximum of 20 rage (10 with Tactical Mastery). For example, if you have 100 rage and change stances, you will have 80 rage remaining. If you have 10 rage and change stances, all of your rage is lost. In addition, we may change the penalties associated with some stances.
  • What the hell were they thinking ? If we don’t keep a minimum of 25 rage when we switch stance, we’re as good as dead. This change will just tip the rage loss on stance change issue the other way around.  This thread explains why it is such a bad change.

  • You now gain rage when damage done to you is absorbed, such as through a Power Word: Shield.
  • With even more shields tossed around, we can’t understand why we are now given rage when we have dmg in absorbed but rather absorbed and done. No other class is crippled as we are by bubbles.

  • Blood Frenzy now causes 2/4% physical damage done.
  • Back to TBC, nerf was reverted

  • Sunder Armor (and similar debuffs) now reduces armor by 4% per application, and is now a single rank. Creature armor has been globally reduced so that debuffed targets should take about the same damage from physical attacks that they did before this change. The net effect should be that this debuff is slightly less mandatory in PvE and is not disproportionately more powerful against cloth targets in PvP.
  • Am I the only one reading Nerf ? If it’s less mandatory in PvE, it means its effect will be less tangible.  In PvP, they state upfront that it is a nerf.

  • We are also adding increased damage to Arms, possibly through Overpower or Slam.
  • Overpower is dependant on the RNG (yay more RNG, we need more RNG !) Slam has a cast time, which is a real pain to use in PvE if the fight requires any once of movement. In PvP, it’s useless as any 1400+ players knows that shall keep moving at all time. Making slam instant would be a good step in the right direction, but then you’d need to buff MS to make it worthwhile to use over Slam. Who in their right mind would use a 30 rage ability over a 15 one if the damage is the same and that MS’s debuff is not needed ?

  • We are also looking at granting rage when the warrior blocks, dodges or parries.
  • This will greatly help fixing the longtime issue of warriors that overgear an instance. It’s no fun to tank with your pants off in order to generate rage. However, this has absolutely no use for an arms warrior.

    All in all, I’m very disappointed in 3.1, I was expecting that, that patch would fix a lot of the fundamental issue the class suffers (outdated stance mechanic, ability lockup, survivability issue, low dps unless having the top of the top gear, RNG dependability)
